How can you pick an online business niche from among the billions of web pages that are on the Internet today? Despite the increased longevity of our lives, most of us won't live long enough to spend three seconds on each page, never mind study them all looking for a niche into which we can set up a business. So, what strategies could you use that would be effective?
1. The most obvious place to start is by looking at where most of the online money is spent already. There are three broad categories: Health, relationships, and how to make money online.
Health
This category includes everything to do with getting healthy and staying that way. Vitamins & supplements, all forms of exercise and the equipment needed to perform it, how to lose weight, lower blood sugar, avoid heart disease, and beat cancer are found here.
Relationships
This category is just as broad as the first one. Anytime you meet someone for business or social reasons, the potential exists are for a good or a bad relationship. So, meeting strangers, dating, marriage, getting your girlfriend back, getting along with your mother-in-law, etc are all subjects that you'll find here.
How to make money online
This is probably the granddaddy of them all. There are a lot of people, besides you, who would like to make money via the Internet; and it's the Web that makes it possible to do all three simultaneously, depending on the niche you choose.
2. The next place to look and that will help you to narrow your search is Google Trends.
Undoubtedly, some of the topics that appear reflect recent interests: a forest fire, a hurricane, a pop star, or someone who's been voted off of a reality show. But, you can use the search box to drill down into topics that interest you.
3. Google Ads
In case you're not familiar with these, they appear at the top and along the right side of your screen when you conduct a search in the Google search engine. The ones at the top are "cleverly" disguised with a faintly colored box into which the advert links are placed.
Whoever is paying to advertise on the search return page believes that there's money to be made from those who search on those terms; and they're willing to pay substantial sums, in many cases, to Google to find out if they're right.
